Kayla Willis Columbus OH Obituary, Death:- A tragic accident occurred early Monday morning on Interstate 70 in East Columbus, leaving one woman dead. The incident took place around 1:10 a.m. when a 2021 Freightliner semitruck was traveling eastbound on I-70 near the I-270 interchange.
At the same time, 27-year-old Kayla Willis, also known as Lakayla Willis, from Columbus, Ohio, was driving westbound on I-70 in her 2014 Jeep Cherokee. According to police reports, Willis veered off the right side of the roadway, striking a concrete wall.
After hitting the wall, she continued across the median and lost control of her vehicle, which then struck a guardrail on the opposite side of the highway. The force of the crash caused the Jeep to flip and land on the eastbound lanes of the highway, directly in the path of the approaching semitruck. The truck collided with the Jeep, causing a devastating impact.
Emergency responders rushed Willis to Mount Carmel East hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, despite the medical team’s best efforts, she was pronounced dead at 2:32 a.m. Police have not released details regarding the condition of the truck driver, but it remains unclear whether they sustained any injuries in the crash.
At this time, authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash. They have not disclosed whether drugs, alcohol, or any other factors contributed to the incident. The loss of Kayla Willis, a young woman from Columbus, has left her family and community heartbroken.
Willis, who was known to many in her community, was a student of social work at Central State University and a graduate of Eastmoor Academy. She was remembered by friends and loved ones for her kindness and warmth. As the investigation continues, her family and friends are left mourning the loss of a beloved individual.
